I just wanted to pop in and share a little tip that helped me when I was first learning English. For the longest time, I was terrified of contractions because they felt like "broken" English. I thought I had to write every single word out properly to prove I knew the language. 🤦

But then I realized that avoiding contractions was actually making my writing sound foreign and stiff. My breakthrough came when I started reading my work out loud. If a sentence sounded robotic or unnatural when spoken, I would look for a place to add a contraction. It was like magic!

Suddenly, my writing sounded so much more fluent and natural. So, to my fellow English learners: don't be afraid! Embracing "don't," "can't," and "won't" is a huge step towards sounding like a native speaker.

You've got this! 💪🥳💖

Magela, thank you for posting this! 🙏 I'm from Japan, and we're taught English so formally in school that contractions almost feel like mistakes. My teachers always marked them down on essays, so I trained myself to avoid them completely.

But then I studied abroad and realized... native speakers use contractions CONSTANTLY. Like, every single sentence. 😂 My writing sounded so stiff compared to my American classmates, and I couldn't figure out why. The reading aloud trick is brilliant! I just tried it with my economics paper, and wow—so many places where "it is" should definitely be "it's."

You're right that it's about fluency, not correctness. Thank you for helping me unlearn something that was holding me back! 💖
